This past week I have managed to record both guitars for the 2 tracks during the first 2 days of the week. The whole process went quite smoothly as I managed to get Ieuan as well as Josh Armitage to help me record. I also only had to do the rhythm parts of the song due to the reason that the solos were already recorded previously. This time I had miced up the amp myself with some help from Ieuan. Pete had helped me choose the mics to use but due to some research that I had done before I had a idea in my head on how to place the mics and how to record the guitar tracks.
Coming near to the end of the week I had began recording vocals for only one of the tracks as after listening back a few times to one of the tracks I had the impression that it was a good instrumental track which didn't really need vocals due to the already big amount of instruments that were being used. I also thought that my vocal style didn't really fit in that well with that track and that it wouldn't give it justice. I had then just briefly began mixing which I will finish on Monday. For the recording of the vocals I had used one of the Degree rooms which I had never used before. Pete had showed me how it works and how to record as previously I had just used the Degree and Analogue studio which both were quite different from not only each other but also from the Degree Studio. For the recording of the vocals I had also used the Electro Voice RE20 which I had also previously used to record bass and guitar. Pete had told me that this is a good dynamic mic for recording guttural vocals but I also saw the vocalist from the band Jinjer use this mic previously and I liked the sound that she got with it. Overall I am pleased with the progress made this week.
