Evaluation

To begin with, on the day of the event we had managed to rehearse Paranoid as a group. The rehearsals went quite well as we were all in time and we all knew the structure pretty well. This had made us quite confident as we felt quite well prepared for our show.

Moving onto the other performers and the schedule, everything was very well organised as there was a good variety of songs and the styles were spread out in the schedule keeping the audience fresh. This also enabled us to stand out from the crowd a lot more as we were the only band doing heavy metal for the show although there were some rock bands performing. Also John and Taz did a good job with the lights and the desk making the bands hear themselves and also making the shows look great. This had helped out as it partially took the audience's of the performers and so it had made the whole show look much more interesting.

After a few performers it was time for us to come on stage. I had used Kristian's Fender Telecaster and Ieuan had used Kristian's Ibanez bass while Kristian himself had used his Ibanez rg. This had made it efficient for us as after Kristian's other band had stopped playing we just came on stage and used the gear that was already there as they had also used Kristian's gear. We also have quickly set up the amps and within a few minutes we were ready to play. Once we began playing the intro had gone quite well, we all stayed quite well in time and at the same time we all tried to keep eye contact with the audience. Coming into the first verse Kristian had forgot to play it so he had gone straight into the bridge riff while the rest of the band was playing the verse. Fortunately for us the riffs fit each other quite well so I'm guessing not many people realised. After the verse when we were playing the bridge we were still not all in time but we managed to sort it out for the chorus as we had made eye contact to see what we were doing. After the chorus the song went quite smoothly, we all had made few mistakes there and there but it was much better than how we started off. Kristian's solo went quite well as well I would say and by the end of the song hopefully we had made everyone who noticed forget about the beginning. On the other hand Oz had told me that I have improved staying in time from last week with the use of alternate picking which is good that I have listened to his advice and that I have adapted it to my playing for the show.

Also before we began playing we all had somewhat moved the cables so that they wouldn't be a trip hazard but also so that by accident we wouldn't unplug our instruments during the performance. This was done by taking the cable between the strap and the guitar itself from behind so that the cable would be hanging of the strap. By doing this the rest of the cable was the behind me and mostly out of my way. Another hazard that we could have faced was the volume a if we had set the amplifiers too loud then it could have done some damage to not only ours but also the audiences hearing. We took care of this by adjusting the volume and settings of the amplifiers before the show along with the sound engineers. Lastly we made sure that we all had ear plugs as we played with a drummer and so we had to play loudly (not too loudly) in order to make sure that the audience could hear us.

In conclusion, I am not entirely satisfied with our performance as we could have done much better if we were all more focused on stage. Another way that we could have improved is for us to have practiced our stage presence or maybe have chosen a more aggressive song to which we could have headbanged as Paranoid being a heavy and fast song didn't really fit in with proper windmill headbanging. Lastly for our next show we need to be more focused and aware when we are on stage and not get carried away. It would also be good for us to rehearse a little bit more before our next show so that we are not only confident but also sure of what we are exactly playing.
