My plan for sound for film.

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

Firstly for World war z I am planning to create a slow but dramatic and military like composition to build up tension throughout the time that the main character is travelling so that not only would it be more exciting and interesting but also it would build up nicely to the next scene. I will at first make the composition really quiet and so it will remain nicely in the background but once the character stops talking I will increase the volume of the composition to give the scene something refreshing. I have chosen to go for a military oriented composition as the war between the zombies and normal people is the theme of the movie and so it would fit quite well but also in the second half of this scene after they have landed the main character is travelling with the army. I have also chosen to make the composition quite slow as this will create a ambient effect and also it will build up quite nicely all throughout the scene. This will also create a dramatic effect and it will build up the tension while if I made the composition up tempo it wouldn't fit in as there is nothing visually intense happening as well as overall in this scene there isn't much going on. Lastly considering sound effects I will have the plane engines quite loud to drown out the music at first. Then once main character has stopped talking, the music will become much louder and in the background you will be able to hear people talking and shouting at the air port as well as vehicles moving. These sound effects will be in the background as by the time the plane has landed, the music will become much louder due to the build up. I will also create some hyper real sound effects when they are walking in the building at the end of the scene to add to the build up of the composition but also to create a military vibe of soldiers marching.

Moving onto Seven, for this movie I will create a eerie and disturbing sound track to match the visual aspect of the intro. I will focus on a really deep, distorted and low bass line to create a disturbing effect and once a name is shown I will use either a pitch shifter or a different effect to create a high pitched scratch like sound with the use of a distortion pedal. I will also have the bass line build up until the end of the intro with the use of different effects and instruments, especially wind, string and brass instruments. I may also add a Grand Piano or some organs to create a melody. Considering sound effects I am planning to make some hyper real sound to awaken the senses of the person watching so that they are aware of everything that is happening in the intro as this will make them feel disturbed. I also plan on having a person breathe heavily and whisper in the background to create a tense atmosphere especially when they are cutting their finger tips while I will also have some faint screams in the background getting drowned out by the music to make a mysterious vibe. This will hook in the person watching and it will make them curious of what is happening due to the mysterious intro.
