My practical skills.

During sequencing lessons with Matt I was able to learn how to use and apply automation, which will allow me to add more detail to my work, as well as how to use samples from the logic library, which will allow me be more efficient by using samples instead of recording new ones. This will allow me to complete my work at a much faster rate meaning I can then edit the samples and add different effects to make them sound different and unique.

Another skill I have developed in Matt's lesson is how to use panning as this will not only add more detail to the soundtrack but it will also allow me to experiment with the soundtrack a lot more. By adding panning I will make the movie clip seem a lot more realistic and so areas which are panned far right or far left can stand out from the majority of the soundtrack which will have well balanced panning. I have learn't how to use panning and automation in Matt's lesson when we were working on the recording of the song I want to break free by Queen. In the recording there were many instruments used and each of them had parts where they either had to stand out or remain in the background. In order to make the instruments stand out I have used automation. A example of this would be the guitar as when there were vocals along with the guitar at the same time, the vocals would be louder while when the vocals stopped the guitar would be turned up in order to make it more defined and distinct from the rest of the instruments. A example of panning would be the cymbals and toms on the drum kit due to the toms and cymbals being spread out meaning that the sound will then come from different directions. I have then done this by panning the right cymbal to the far right and the left cymbal to the far left while keeping the snare and bass drum in the middle to make the drum kit seem a lot more alive. Lastly, I had learn't how to use the samples from logic in a composition that we had worked on with Matt where we had began experimenting in logic with different sounds and possibilities.
