Today we had to come up with our own song in the style of 50's music. In order to do this we started off with a chord progression which Chris had came up with. On that day we were also a man down as our vocalist was absent that day and so we had decided to not have vocals but to make it a instrumental. After we had got the chord progression down we then began to work on structure, firstly we had the intro which was 2 bars long then we had moved onto the verse which was the same as the intro but this time it was 4 bars, afterwards we had the chorus which was also 4 bars long and then we went back to the verse and ended the song off with a bass line by Chris. We then had spent around a hour practicing this where I did some lead in the intro playing a octave higher than the rest of the band. When it came to the performance we were another man down as Aidan hadn't arrived for the session but we decided to just perform as a three piece, for the performance I decided to do Aidan's part as I thought it'll sound better than having lead on its own, We managed to play the intro and verse but during the chorus I forgot to change what I was doing and the performance kind of fell apart leaving only Chris playing bass and trying to get everyone to came back but with that I failed to carry on playing and so Chris just ended the song on his own. From this I have learned that it's better to just stick to my part then trying to change it at the spot minutes before going on stage. I also reflected back on this performance and realised that I also need to be more confident with what I play as I happen to lose faith in myself a lot and I end up making mistakes so I just have to improve my confidence on stage.
